travel along the Timbuktu route
This historical city is where the African red soil and the golden desert sands meet, right at the edge of the Sahara. It formed the gateway from the Arabic north to the African south, and vice-versa. A place where caravan-trains full of valuables trade and shelter.
In this region, where the first modern human beings are thought to have evolved, surviving can never be taken for granted. People have to respect the natural elements and rely on the traditions and beliefs that their ancestors passed on to them. Communities unite and create together, crafting strong products in perfect harmony with nature. Powerful creations, often in primitive colours, emerge from these lands. These creations reflect the region’s ever-threatened traditions and rituals. We help protect these traditions and rituals through the work we do.
